The Fox and Hounds, a cozy, family friendly Gatro-pub, in the beautiful village of Charwelton, Daventry, is a community‐owned pub.
Although The Fox and Hounds has been a thriving gastro pub so far, we believe, transforming the Fox and Hounds into a more community oriented, relaxing place for the locals, along with reasonably priced, fresh, cooked to order food, will ensure the success and sustainability of the village pub. Community ownership means we are able to ensure the business works alongside existing village businesses rather than competing directly with them.
Our vision is to create a central focal point for village life which will act as a catalyst to go hand in hand with the current economic climate and sense of community in Charwelton. Besides continuing, to offer a set gastro pub menu to attract the current clientele, the plan is to incorporate alongside, a traditional local British village pub serving real ale and sensibly priced wholesome food, with focus on supporting our local farmers in using their fresh produce.
We aim to bring a safe and enjoyable space for the whole community, have a base for community activities, bring in new trade through regular entertaining events throughout the year and develop the outdoor space at the back of the pub, to create a relaxed outdoor space, for families to enjoy, during the warmer days.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
I am Kalei and originally from Mauritius, an island with a wealth of multicultural heritage and diverse communities. I grew up eating a vast variety of food, full of flavours and culinary influences. My husband, Aman is also a great food lover and we both had the pleasure of growing up with grandparents who were hardworking farmers. Hence good quality fresh food is something we really want to make use of and share the love of food with everyone who walks through our doors. We want to bring you fusion, warmth, and happiness but above all great food.
We also have a passion to incorporate great wine pairings to a range of dishes and hence have made some great connections with trusted resources, in respect of wineries in the country. We are keen on delivery of down to earth, warm and traditional rural atmospheres within a pub setting, where focus is to bring people together to have a great time and create wonderful memories.
The Pub building
Dating back as far as the 1600s, the beautiful stone-built Fox and Hounds, set in the pretty village of Charwelton, has undergone quite a transformation in recent years, having been purchased as a community asset and renovated to a high standard, it’s now both a welcoming village pub and a superb gastro restaurant, serving exceptionally crafted classics and innovative dishes that you won’t find elsewhere near.
Boasting elegant, country-chic vibes, The Fox and Hounds, described by reviewing website “Muddy Stiletto) to be “a fail-safe destination pub” that works for a cosy drink by the fire, cocktails with the girls, a family feast in the courtyard garden or a relaxed but intimate date night, plus the bar area is pooch friendly.
Medium to longer term works would be paid for from the trading surplus, grant funding and input as appropriate. Such works include, a pub shop, providing fresh produce supplied by local farms, apprenticeships for colleges with focus being to support the community to develop young talents and encourage them to further develop their unique skills.
Furthermore, permission may also be sought to hold events like themed birthday parties to bring in a local touch for families wishing to celebrate small events but within a creative and welcoming atmosphere dedicated to provide great competitive and fully catered for services.
